California Cancer Reporting System Standards Volume I: Abstracting and Coding Procedures
This field evaluates the primary tumor (T) and reflects tumor size/extension of the tumor known following the completion of therapy.
Refer to the most current AJCC Cancer Staging Manual for coding instructions.
Code the pathologic T as documented by the managing provider or first treating provider in the medical record.
If the managing provider has not recorded the pathologic T, registrars will code the pathologic T based on the best information available.
Code pTX is used for occult carcinoma of the lung.
Use code 88 for pathologic T, N, and M as well as pathologic stage group when:
Site/histology combination is not defined in the AJCC Manual.
For in situ tumors that are not staged according to the AJCC Manual.
