California Cancer Reporting System Standards Volume I: Abstracting and Coding Procedures
This field evaluates the primary tumor (T) and reflects tumor size/extension of the tumor known prior to the start of any therapy.
Refer to the most current AJCC Cancer Staging Manual for coding instructions.
Code the clinical T as documented by the managing provider or first treating provider in the medical record.
If the managing provider has not recorded the clinical T, registrars will code the clinical T based on the best information available.
Code cTX is used for occult carcinoma of the lung.
Use code 88 for clinical T, N, and M as well as clinical stage group when:
Site/histology combination is not defined in the AJCC Manual.
In situ tumors that are not staged according to the AJCC Manual.
